Slice of Paradise: Sitting Room

BEFORE

& AFTER

(check out the other pictures of our finished sitting room in the slideshow at the end of this post!)

After writing the blog post last week on our living room renovation, I felt this week would be the perfect time to talk about our sitting room since the two rooms are connected. Before the renovation, our living room was long and narrow. What we ended up doing was expanding the living room by enclosing our screened in porch. This created an oversized ‘L’ shaped area. So, we decided to separate the portion of the ‘L’ nearest the front of our house into a fun sitting room! You can see the beginning of the mini wall build-out in the picture above.’

We went back and forth on whether to do a brick accent wall or go for our favorite look, shiplap! We ultimately decided on shiplap because it was more cost effective and we are a little shiplap obsessed! For those of you who are interested, our shiplap color is Sherwin Williams Extra White, which matches our trim color. With this, I found it to be important to add some rustic elements to keep balance in the room since it is a very bright white.

We got our couch, sconces, and cowhide rug from Scott Antique Market. If you live in the Atlanta area, the Market is open the second weekend of every month. Vendors from across the Southeast set up in two gigantic warehouses from Thursday to Sunday. I highly recommend if you live in Georgia or any surrounding state that you make a road trip to Atlanta for the weekend for this event. Also, on Sundays the vendors are more willing to negotiate pricing, so they do not have to haul back un-purchased items.

The two accent chairs I found on sale at HomeGoods (of which I am a frequent visitor). These work well in this room because they have low backs that allow you to have a clear site line from the front door across the house.

Right now, I went with some fun accents to fill void spaces in the room. I wanted this room to feel as light and airy as possible as you enter the house. With that being said, I love the faux fur ottoman I scooped up from Target! On the ottoman, I place some small knickknacks from the home decor section at Target. To really bring life to the room, I added a splash of color with the square pom throw pillows.

I am still contemplating how to finish decorating this room. Some of the items I still want to add is a coffee table, faux plant, wall decor, and window treatments. I have been on the hunt for the last few weeks, but have not found the perfect pieces yet. Please let me know if y’all have any suggestions! I will definitely keep y’all updated on the progress of the room. But for now, I hope y’all enjoy the pictures at the bottom of the page!
